Children’s Game Turns to Comical Bloodbath in Red-Band Trailer for Ready or Not

Think your in-laws are bad? Well, at least your new mother-in-law isn’t a maniacal murderer chasing you down with a crossbow.

In the first trailer for Ready or Not, Grace, a young bride played by Samara Weaving, starts out all smiles in a lacy white dress. But things quickly take a turn as she joins her husband’s (Mark O’Brien) wealthy board game tycoon family in a time-honored tradition thats turns deadly.

In this gratuitously violent horror-comedy, Grace’s eccentric new in-laws carry on a bloody legacy by playing a different, randomly selected children’s game every time someone marries into the family.

When an unsuspecting Grace unfortunately chooses hide-and-seek, the one game that, through family history, always ends in bloodshed as in-laws seek to kill their target after discovering his or her hiding place, child’s play turns to bloodbath.

“The rules are simple,” one in-law ominously explains. “You hide anywhere, and we try to find you.”

Then cut to the scene where he’s handing out guns, knives and crossbows—the phrase “shotgun wedding” suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.

The trailer previews a cat-and-mouse pursuit of poor Grace that takes us through car crashes, blood-soaked dresses and the hilariously gruesome demises of the hulking mansion’s unfortunate maids.

If the movie is anything like the trailer, it’s bound to offer up buckets of blood—and laughs.

Ready or Not, the latest horror offering from the trio of filmmakers behind Radio Silence Productions (also known for V/H/S and Devil’s Due), is set for release Aug. 23.

The film stars Weaving, best-known for her work in Thee Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Babysitter and Picnic at Hanging Rock. Adam Brody, Henry Czerny and Andie MacDowell round out the film’s principal cast.

Fresh from Devil’s Due, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett reunite to co-direct Ready or Not, with a script from Guy Busick & R. Christopher Murphy.
