Spoil Rogue One for Yourself by Watching the International Trailer

The latest trailer for Rogue One was made for international audiences, but if you’re the kind of person who picks apart trailers to figure out a movie’s plot and structure, it’s a goldmine. If you’re not interested in spoiling the movie for yourself in a desperate, impatient mania for anything Star Wars, you might want to skip this one. You’ve been warned.

For the first time, we see Jyn Erso’s mother, who gives the young rebel what is likely a Kyber crystal, a Force-sensitive element that powers lightsabers and the Death Star. Since the crystals seem popular in the Erso family, that would explain why the Empire picks up Erso’s father to work on their doomsday machine. And speaking of the Death Star, we see it firing for the first time, on what is likely the desert planet Jedha, where an old Jedi temple is located along with an abundance of crystals.

We also get a new shot of Riz Ahmed’s Bodhi Rook definitely looking worse for wear. Since none of the Rogue One crew are mentioned or seen in the original trilogy, it’s safe to assume they see a heavy casualty rate, and it looks like Rook is among that number.

And finally, we get a new shot of Darth Vader, posing with his hand in an odd position, probably doing some sort of Force maneuver. Perhaps he’s inflicting some pain on Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic, who can be seen arguing with Vader in a similar-looking room, or it could be Vader dishing out Empire-style justice on the Rogue One crew as they steal the plan for the Death Star. If the movie ends with Vader just slicing through all of our heroes, it’d be brutal, but not entirely unexpected.

So, there’s some hero motivation confirmed, a major sequence explained and hints at least one character’s death. We warned you there could be spoilers.

Rogue One hits theaters on Dec. 16. Watch the trailer embedded above.
