Finally! Black Widow Standalone Film Moves Forward

After years of lobbying and persistent questions from reporters, Scarlett Johansson (and countless Marvel fans) may finally be getting their wish: a solo Black Widow film. As reported by E! News, screenwriter Jac Schaeffer (TiMER) has been hired to pen the script for the still-in-development project.

Since arriving in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) has appeared in every Avengers film along with the Captain America sequels. She will appear in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers follow-up in May 2019. Whenever the project is released, it will be the second Marvel film featuring a female lead, as the Brie Larson-led Captain Marvel will hit theaters in 2019.

In a 2016 Variety interview, Johansson spoke about pitching the film, saying, “I’m invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in the character. I would like for it to happen under the right circumstances.”

With a screenwriter finally attached to Black Widow’s solo outing, we might see the film in due time. Fingers crossed.
