Foo Fighters Tease “Official Band Announcement” As Breakup Rumors Swirl

The Internet is abuzz with whispers that the Foo Fighters’ demise as a band is imminent. It’s been well over a year since Sonic Highways, and Page Six reports that a source says Dave Grohl is planning to embark on a solo career. Coincidentally, the band tweeted this last night, in reference to this evening:

Official band announcement tomorrow night. Stay tuned.

Of course, this could just be the announcement of a new tour or a new album, but the tone of the above tweet feels fairly heavy. If the Foos were to call it quits, they’d be leaving behind a 20-year legacy of carrying guitar-driven alt-rock’s banner—an era in which Dave Grohl became a sort of living legend.
