Jon Hopkins has shared the video for “Singularity,” the expansive, cinematic title track from his latest album.
The video, directed by Seb Edwards, is fittingly, well, movie-like with its broad, possibly dystopian cityscapes and choreographed dance-fights. But it’s also, for the most part, refreshingly small—the focus is entirely on the two main actors alternately fighting and dancing with one another. There’s a lot of lifting, carrying, breaking of walls and spinning like tops through darkly lit forests—you know, the usual in 2018 moviemaking.
“This is the single most epic video I’ve ever had made,” Hopkins said in a statement accompanying the video’s release. “The power of what he has done left me speechless the first time I saw it. He translated the themes of destruction and defiance that I fed into the music into a powerful, violent ballet between male and female and I totally love it.”
Hopkins will be embarking on tour this fall—dates below.
