Rarely is a comment on an online video so succinct, true and lacking in hostility, but they’re not wrong. As the principal songwriter, guitarist and secondary (occasionally primary) vocalist in The Who, one of the most revered rock bands ever, Townshend is a vital character in rock ‘n’ roll’s history. Not only has he written dozens upon dozens of songs for the band’s 11 studio albums, but he also has a substantial solo catalogue. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has at least five albums of his own and has collaborated with some of rock’s biggest stars throughout his career including David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney.
