Watch Willie Nelson Perform New Song “Vote ‘Em Out” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Leave it to Willie Nelson to find a way to simplify an issue that the entire country has been freaking out over for months.

Performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, Nelson performed Frank Sinatra classic “Fly Me To The Moon,” advertising the country legend’s most recent album of Sinatra covers, before turning to an original. The original, a well-timed new track titled “Vote ‘Em Out,” comes one week before November’s midterm elections and offers an easy solution for anyone unhappy with our current government.

Easing into the laid-back track, built on a simple walking bass line and a bluesy lead piano, Nelson breaks down the upcoming election. Backed by an American flag, he doesn’t display any of the urgency often associated with this election and our exploding federal government, but rather the knowledge of having lived many years (85, to be exact) and through many administrations. His solution is simple: “If you don’t like who’s in there, vote ‘em out / That’s what election day is all about / The biggest gun we’ve got is called the ballot box / So if you don’t like who’s in there, vote ‘em out.” It’s refreshing, to say the least.

Though the track itself isn’t highly partisan, Nelson first performed it at a rally for Beto O’Rourke, the grassroots-campaigning representative running against Ted Cruz, earlier this month at a rally in Austin, Texas.
