The second story in the West of the Dead Line series.

Early in the American Civil War, when the young slave, Bass Reeves, is captured by a Union spy in Arkansas he unwittingly begins the journey toward his destiny.

Escaping the spy, young Bass finds his way into the encampment of the 2nd Cherokee Mounted Rifles of the Confederate Army. There he joins the fight which history will call the Battle of Pea Ridge, and must decide whether to stay safe in his old ways, or escape to freedom.

About the Author

I'm a Heartland American who still believes in God, country, and apple pie (ummm). I've been married to the same woman for 40+ years and plan to remain so as long as she and God permit it. I'm a father of two, grandfather of four, a Protestant, a veteran. Some would call me a curmudgeon (and have); I prefer conservative. I left the business world in 2007 to become a full-time writer. I have four published novels - Red Lands Outlaw, West of the Dead Line, Treasure Kills, Game. Numbers 5 & 6 are in the pipe. I've never read books about teenage vampires, probably because I'm a former high school teacher; nor will I probably ever read a Harry Potter book. The thought of flying children with wizardly skills frightens me.
