This young, blue-eyed-soul singer is a sultrier kind of pop star. Katie Hargrove’s new self-titled debut EP, is “everything I have--rolled into a few bars: it’s real, it’s painful, it’s empowering and it’s true.”

Music was always an important part of Katie’s youth. The native of Knoxville, TN, began performing at age 10. She was classically trained and competed nationally in piano, but began to favor the guitar once she hit her teens. Her early influences were Carole King, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Dixie Chicks, and Tupac.

She continued to sing and write songs through high school and college, especially when things got rocky in her life. “Music is my outlet…during the ups and downs…I knew no matter how silenced I felt, my music would always give me a voice.” After graduating from the University of Florida, she moved to Washington, DC, where she previously called home. After briefly touring and playing at national charitable and community events, she was chosen by the US Dept of the Interior to perform in the Christmas Music Program at the White House this past December.

She has performed alongside Aaron Carter, “American Idol’ Kris Allen, Jason Lancaster, and Death of Paris/Glass Mansions. But when 21-year old Katie Hargrove stepped into the studio for the first time in Philadelphia, at Morningstar Studios, she almost cried she was so nervous. “I think singer-songwriters wait their whole lives hoping and dreaming of a day when their music will be more than a project,” Katie says.

With her debut album, Katie delights in her greatest passion: sharing her music with the world. Her music embodies the new generation of strong outspoken female pop singers, and has earned her comparisons to both Adele and to Alanis Morissette. She was featured in the Pride issue of Billboard Magazine for her A2iM Nomination for "Best R&B Album" this past June. She now resides in the Los Angeles, California area writing and performing full time.

Micah Scott is a singer/songwriter with a minor prophet’s name who was raised in a small northern New York State town with Revolutionary War bones in its fields. Born in 1978, he had retro taste early, drawn to The Ventures, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the Beatles, when the rest of the world was listening to Debbie Boone and Meat Loaf. He lost the plot in his hormonal years, detouring briefly into Pantera and later, an Alice in Chains phase. When his guitar teacher turned him onto Blind Lemon Jefferson and Robert Johnson, the die was cast. Today, he counts as seminal influences Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt and John Fahey.

An attraction to Piedmont and Delta sounds drew him south—way south, to Jupiter, Florida. Armed with an honors degree from the Crane School of Music, Micah began getting roots-music cred playing every gig he could. Dim, greasy dive bars. Then more upscale blues clubs; and finally, music festivals. Seven years later, he co-founded a popular South Florida band called The KillBillies, which has grown a grass-roots following along the coast. This year, Micah made his first album, Dark Horse, on a break from an East Coast solo tour. It was recorded over three weeks in Philadelphia—another place steeped in American history. The album debuted at #1 on the Amazon Roots-Rock chart, and the single, Step Outta Line, came in at #1 on the Amazon Alt-Country and Americana chart.

Micah’s debut arrives fully-formed; not in the auto-tuned, quantized, Pro-Tooled fashion of the 21st-century digital download, but in the old-school way. Dark Horse succeeds on solid writing, honest talent, ace musicianship, and hand-crafted production. It’s deeply reassuring that an old soul like Micah Scott is the artistic engine behind it.
