The 2016 Election Gets Even Weirder: Colin Powell Email Used the Phrase “Dicking Bimbos” in Leaked Email

Politics News Colin Powell

Former four-star general and Secretary of State Colin Powell has always seemed to command the kind of dignity that transcends political parties. He was the guy you respected and admired almost regardless of your affiliation, and who stood as an example of the best America had to offer—he even had the courage to buck his party and endorse Obama in 2008 and 2012. But if there’s one lesson we’ve learned from the 2016 election, it’s that no one escapes with his or her reputation totally intact, and Powell is no exception. Today, due to yet another email dump, he went from being a paragon of virtue to a dude who uses the phrase “dicking bimbos” in his personal correspondence.

In a new set of emails posted at DCLeaks (which, no surprise, may have a Russian connection), you can read Powell sounding off on a number of issues. But his most titillating words of all, by far, come in an email to Jeffrey Leeds on the topic of Hillary Clinton and her husband Bill:

“I would rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect. A 70-year person with a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational, with a hasband still dicking bimbos at home (according to the NYP),” he wrote.

Well…that’s certainly not subtle.

Nor is it his only strong opinion. Vox has a good rundown of other interesting remarks from the leaked emails, but if you’re annoyed by that outlet’s neoliberal corporatist bent and don’t want to click, here’s a short summary:

—He considers Benghazi a “stupid witch hunt.”

—He considers Trump “a national disgrace and an international pariah.”

—He adds that Trump “appeals to the worst angels of GOP nature and white folks,” and calls him a “racist.”

—On Clinton, he says “everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris” and should have done a “full monty” when the email scandal first became public. He also noted that she routinely “keeps tripping into these ‘character’ minefields.”

-He had to throw a “mini tantrum” at a party in the Hamptons to get the attention of Clinton’s staff to encourage them not to tie him into the email fiasco.

—Proving his love for the verb “dick,” he said this on private emails: “They are going to dick up the legitimate and necessary use of emails with friggin record rules..I saw email more like a telephone than a cable machine.”

Powell has not endorsed either candidate yet, but he waited until early fall to endorse Obama both times, and if anything is coming down the pipeline, it will almost certainly be for Clinton…even if she is married to a man who busies himself “dicking bimbos.”
