Roe v. Wade is no more. Friday’s 6-3 decision in the U.S. Supreme Court ends 50 years of constitutionally-protected protections guaranteeing people with the ability to get pregnant their right to bodily autonomy in reproductive healthcare, all thanks to a highest court now defined by Christian-conservatism over anything.
Despite Cheif Justice Roberts, Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh stating their belief that Roe v. Wade was settled legal precedent during their confirmation hearings, but all either joined or concurred with Justice Alito’s opinion that the decision was “egregiously wrong.”
At least 20 states are on track to implement incredibly restrictive or full bans on abortion in the very near-future, with 13 states currently having “trigger bans” in place that enact abortion bans anywhere from 30 days to immediately after Roe v. Wade is struck down.
Digital and online resources for those seeking to end a pregnancy are more important now than ever due to the varying state-by-state restrictions on the procedure and continuing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. As the nation sifts through the fallout of this decision, these aids are doing what they can to keep that accessibility as open as possible and are prepping for what comes next.
National Network Of Abortion Funds
At the forefront of providing access to abortion services are abortion funds that cover single states all the way up to the entire U.S. The National Network of Abortion Funds’ website collects a large amount of these funds from across the nation and streamlines the ability to find one that can help cover the cost no matter where you live. It also lays out simple tools to help users donate to these funds. The site was so popular in the hours after Alito’s draft leaked back in May that it crashed under a flood of user engagement. It recovered shortly thereafter, continuing its mission of breaking down socioeconomic barriers preventing pregnant individuals from accessing care.
