Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen Find Out Forever Is a Long Time in Trailer for New Amazon Series

Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph spent four years together on the cast of Saturday Night Live. Now, they’re teaming up as a married couple in a new Amazon original series titled Forever that’s set to debut on Sept. 14.

On Thursday, a first-look trailer for the show was released. At its start, Armisen and Rudolph look genuinely happy as shots progress from the first time they met at a bar to carefree bowling dates, a proposal and a move into the town of Riverside, Calif., to live out their married lives. Watching it, we’re hopeful for their love but have a sinking feeling it’s not meant to last.

And then, to remind you that about 50 percent of American marriages end in divorce, Rudolph’s smile dulls until the pair are sullenly playing shuffleboard—which we, frankly, don’t understand; if shuffleboard doesn’t make you happy, what will? In a matter of less than two minutes, their relationship goes from enamored excitement to comfort and predictability. Listen, forever is a long time, we totally get it.

The trailer gives us a glimpse into the thematic nature of the show without giving away too much. For example, here is one question we have: Does Rudolph stumble onto Burning Man or does she happen upon another cult-like burning of wooden structures? Only time will tell.

A synopsis of the show describes Forever as an “utterly original, insightful and poignant comedy about love, commitment, and marriage.” The series was created by Master of None’s Alan Yang and Parks and Recreation’s Matt Hubbard. Watch the full trailer below.
