Brian Cox Regrets Turning Down a Role in Game of Thrones

Brian Cox was offered a role early on in Game of Thrones and turned it down, much to his current chagrin, the accomplished character actor revealed in an interview with Vodzilla.

The Emmy award-winning actor has never been one that’s gotten too much attention, but has built a trustworthy name as a dependable, he’s-gonna-be-great actor. His most notable are supporting roles in features like Braveheart, the Bourne movies, Super Troopers and Troy. Apparently, that doesn’t mean he’s cheap to book: Cox said that when GoT came knocking, the price wasn’t quite right. He told Vodzilla:

Well, stupidly, I turned it down in the early days because they didn’t pay enough money! Now they have more money. And I was silly. I was silly, it was silly, because I’m a complete addict now. But I don’t know what I could play … I just watched my friend Ian McShane, and I thought, “Ooh, Ian’s in it,” so I settled down to watch him. And I thought, “Ian did that?” and immediately I thought, “God, they must have paid him well,” because I know Ian!

The role Cox was considered for is unspecified, but he says now he’s ready when GoT will have him. In the meantime, he’ll be reprising his role as Captain O’Hagan in Super Troopers 2 and playing Winston Churchill in a new biopic, Churchill.
