HBO's Girls Will End After Season 6

Lena Dunham’s prophesizing has come true: her hit HBO comedy Girls will air for two more seasons and then come to a full stop in 2017, according to E! Online. Given that Season 5 has yet to premiere (it does so next month), we’re still a ways off from that, but having this prior knowledge should help both the show’s runners and its fan base come to terms with its eventual end.

Dunham first hinted at Girls’ limited lifespan in a September interview with Z100’s Elvis Duran, stating, “I started working on this show when I was 23, and I’m going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world.” In a way, it perfectly describes the milieu of the show and the society it reflects so well: it’s at least acceptable for millennials to spend time “finding themselves” after college, but if they don’t have their lives together by about age 30, it’s time to really worry.

Needless to say, Dunham and her co-stars have their careers pretty well figured out at this point—particularly Adam Driver, who will be riding the Star Wars wave for the next five years. Their Girlscharacters, on the other hand, still have a ways to go.
