J.J. Abrams is Bringing Sci-Fi Show Glare to HBO

TV News J.J. Abrams

J.J. Abrams’ name alone is enough to get people talking about a project, no matter what it is. When we first reported on Westworld being picked up by HBO way back in 2013, we mentioned Abrams’ involvement, and, thanks to directing the highest-grossing domestic release of all time, Abrams’ reputation has only grown since then.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams is producing another sci-fi show for HBO. Glare will be an hourlong drama about “the colonization of another planet.” The show will be written by Javier Gullón, who’s best known for writing the excellent Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Enemy. Gullón will also executive-produce along with Abrams and Ben Stephenson, the head of Abram’s production company Bad Robot.

After Game of Thrones and Westworld, it looks like HBO is doubling down on high-budget, high-concept sci-fi and fantasy, and we are perfectly fine with that, especially if Glare turns out as good as those shows are.
