Watch: An Appreciation of Schitt’s Creek

The Peak TV world can be difficult to navigate, so we at Paste TV are bringing you single, curated picks each week of some of our favorite series for you to binge (or just watch slowly savor over time).

This week, Editor-in-Chief Josh Jackson and I (TV Editor Allison Keene) discuss Schitt’s Creek, an unexpectedly smart comedy (given that title) that chronicles the fall of the Rose family, who lose their video store fortune after being defrauded by their business manager. They end up relying on their sole remaining asset: a tiny backwater town called Schitt’s Creek, which had been bought as a joke gift decades before.

The Rose family consist of former magnate Johnny (Eugene Levy), his soap opera star wife Moira (Catherine O’Hara), party girl daughter Alexis (Annie Murphy), and fashion-forward son David (Daniel Levy, who is indeed Eugene’s son and who also co-created the series). As the family finds their footing in this strange town, the series grows both in its warmth and humor. It only gets better and better, and is sure to lift your spirits.

Check out our thoughts on the series as a whole, and why it’s worth a binge; Seasons 1-5 on Netflix, Season 1-4 are on CW Seed; Season 6 is currently airing on Pop TV.
