Hulu Debuts Veronica Mars Trailer, J.K. Simmons Wears a Top Hat

That’s right, marshmallows. Hulu has just debuted the first trailer for its forthcoming Veronica Mars revival.

The show, which experienced a harrowing cancellation in 2007, looks as sleek as ever in the new trailer, which vaguely accounts for the 12-year gap between seasons: “I spent my first 19 years trying to escape my hometown,” Kristen Bell’s Veronica Mars says. “Made it out, then after a decade away, decided it needed me, and I needed it.”

From the multiple explosions and neon bathing suits shown in the trailer, it looks like the beloved private investigator’s new caseload revolves around a series of mysterious bombings that destroy the seaside town of Neptune, target its spring breakers and decimate its tourist industry.

The trailer features series newcomers J.K. Simmons, Patton Oswalt, Clifton Collins Jr. and Dawnn Lewis and welcomes back Bell, Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls, Enrico Colantoni as Keith Mars and Ryan Hansen as Dick Casablancas.

Originally airing on The WB (RIP) in 2003, Veronica Mars was picked up for a fourth season by Hulu in late 2018. At that point, however, the Mars series wasn’t necessarily stagnant. In 2014, the show’s creator and Bell developed a feature film for the series that was entirely fan-funded.

(Keep in mind that the show has maintained a diehard fanbase for over a decade. To illustrate “diehard” a little more clearly: when the show was in jeopardy of cancellation in 2006, a group of fans hired a plane to fly a banner that read “RENEW VERONICA MARS! CW 2006!” over the CW offices).

All episodes will be available to stream on Friday, July 26, but while you wait, check out the trailer below and our list of everything we know about the forthcoming season so far.
