Minecraft Movie Gets A Release Date

Movies News Minecraft

After a change of directors from Shawn Levy to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia funny guy Rob McElhenney, Warner Bros. has now shared the release date for their film adaptation of the massively popular Minecraft.

According to a blog post via developer Mojang, the Minecraft fan base will have to wait until May 24, 2019 to feast their eyes on what the game’s 64-bit world will look like on the silver screen. What’s more, the film will also be released in 3D and IMAX, a creative decision that will ensure Creeper explosions as the worst new jump-scares.

Mojang says the wait will be worth it. “Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome. And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?” wrote Mojang COO Vu Bui on the developer’s blog.

Other details like voice cast and plot are scarce, but leave it to the ridiculously creative Minecraft community to build several imagined versions of the film by the time those three years are up.
