Watch The Regrettes Perform “Helpless” for This Month’s Hamildrop
Image via Atlantic RecordsThis month’s Hamildrop—Lin-Manuel Miranda’s series of monthly releases of songs from the beyond-popular musical, as reimagined by artists of various musical genres—is “Helpless,” performed by Los Angeles-based band The Regrettes.
“I love love love Hamilton!” said Regrettes frontwoman Lydia Night, in a statement that has been made by most of America. “I spent weeks after seeing it constantly listening to the soundtrack and ‘Helpless’ was the song that really stood out to me. When I found out we were going to do Hamildrops, I knew we had to record ‘Helpless.’”
As a follow-up to The Hamilton Mixtape, Miranda has debuted one reinterpreted track from the musical’s soundtrack each month since last December. Previous Hamildrops have featured The Decemberists, Nas, Ben Platt and even Weird Al Yankovic. The project will continue through December of this year, ensuring that Hamilton remains on the forefront of the nation’s mind, even as most of us get shut out of ticket sales (we’re not bitter).
Miranda tweeted a playlist containing the entire Hamildrops series.
Wait… you haven’t made a playlist with all the #Hamildrops yet?
Well, we’re halfway through this crazy experiment, you can borrow mine: https://t.co/CqOYED1AYy— Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) May 31, 2018
