On ‘Fancy,’ the colorful, dynamic debut EP from American pop trio Auburn Road, the three best friends are at their best when it feels like they are about to stir up some trouble. New fans will find plenty to adore between the melodic ballads of love and heartache and the girl power punch in the gut.
‘Fancy’ was produced by Michael Anderson—former bass player and musical director for modern icons such as Christina Aguilera and Chris Brown with production credits for Ashlee Simpson, and “American Idol” alums Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler and David Archuleta. The girls enlisted some help from Jason Aldean’s rhythm section—Rich Redmond, Kurt Allison, and Tully Kennedy to add a lil country rock flavor and the songs were mastered by Andrew Mendelson who has worked with Willie Nelson, Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town. All the songs were written by this teenage trio and the stories they tell are something we can all relate to, whether it be in years gone by or our present-day life.
The title track “Fancy” kicks off with an upbeat swing and highlights the girl’s rich harmonies starting off the EP with a nice bang. While “Friday Night Lights” pays homage to the legendary TV series and film, making you long for the after party that came following the high school game. Kicking in with sweet, blues guitar “Tufff Girl” is filled with energy and a ‘do no harm but take no shit’ attitude. We expect to hear much more from this trio of teens and are looking forward to it.
Still in high school, the pretty ladies of Auburn Road are feisty with sass and swagger. If you are searching for some for some female empowerment? You’ve come to the right honky-tonk. These pop-country songs are for the girls, by the girls, but the boys might just learn something too.
