Sure, you might have been burned on “female cyborg” movies in the past. Who, for instance, could forget the disappointment of Angelina Jolie’s first-ever starring role in 1993’s Cyborg 2? (That’s real, look it up.) But ask yourself: How many of those cyborg movies could also claim the boon of being Australian? Aha, that’s what I thought.
Enter, Sheborg. Originally titled Sheborg Massacre—which honestly seems like a better title to us, if you want our opinion—the 2016 low-budget horror/sci-fi mashup is getting a physical and digital release in the U.S.A. this November. And just in case you were wondering, it appears to be entirely unrelated to the 2011 Canadian sci-fi parody Manborg.
One thing that Sheborg certainly isn’t lacking is “WTF factor,” that is for certain. Check out this synopsis:
SHEBORG tells of an alien fugitive that crash lands into a local puppy farm and begins turning people into mutated robot killing machines with a taste for puppy flesh. Dylan (Whitney Duff) and Eddie (Daisy Masterman), two self-proclaimed political activists, are all that stand between the Earth and total domination. Forced into a ‘dare to be great’ situation that neither are prepared for, the two BFF’s must fight their way past cops, city officials and cybernetic dog butchers in order to destroy the evil Sheborg and save the planet!
Oh yeah. It’s definitely been too long since the last time I typed the words “puppy flesh” into a Paste news post. Other objects of interest: The press release generously refers to the film as a “cult classic,” suggesting that just about anything can be named a “classic” under any circumstances. Also hilarious is the line on the film’s Wikipedia entry that suggests Sheborg is in fact “inspired by true events.” Is it, now?
Check out the trailer for Sheborg below to get a glimpse of the madness. The costumes certainly do have a “Borg” sort of feel, although it’s more like Star Trek’s Borg than the gleaming skeleton of Terminator’s T-600.
