Joaquin Phoenix Struggles with the Bottle in Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot Trailer

Sometimes, just seeing a cast list is all we need to get excited about a new drama film, and this is one of those times. Unusual title aside, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot from Amazon Studios looks to have put together quite a cool little lineup, including Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Jonah Hill and Jack Black—all of whom seem to be committed to gallows humor and bittersweet drama, if the above trailer is to be believed. The use of John Lennon’s “Isolation” throughout certainly doesn’t hurt that impression.

Directed by Gus Van Sant (Milk, Good Will Hunting), the film seems to revolve around Joaquin Phoenix’s character, a lifelong alcoholic who is confined to a wheelchair for reasons that are not entirely clear. A svelte-looking Jonah Hill would seemingly be playing a member of Phoenix’s support group, while Mara is playing a potential love interest—a very cool thing to see, thinking back to the crackling and intensely emotional dialog between the two as aggrieved spouses in Spike Jonze’s Her. Jack Black, we don’t see much of in this trailer, besides noting that he apparently shaved his head for the role.

Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot will have its world premiere at Sundance on Jan. 19, and follows up with a VOD release from Amazon Studios on May 11. Keep an eye on it, as it looks like it could be the next indie dramedy that everyone is buzzing about.
