Stand aside, Benedict Cumberbatch: One of Britain’s actors is hot on your tail. Sir Ian McKellen, aka Gandalf, aka Magneto, aka a bunch of other sweet roles, stars in the upcoming film Mr. Holmes, about the last days of the great detective as he tries to solve a final mystery with his young assistant. We showed you a clip of the new film earlier, but now the official trailer is out, which you can watch below. It looks pretty great:
Laura Linney co-stars alongside McKellen, and Bill Condon directs. Mr. Holmes, based on the novel A Slight Trick of the Mind by Mitch Cullin, opens on July 19 in the UK. No U.S. release date has been announced.
