Johnny’s Acting up Again in HBO’s New Trailer for Last Week Tonight Season 7

In the years since it premiered in 2014, HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has come to fill the role of Jon Stewart’s Daily Show: a satirical news show as silly as it is indispensable, without which it’s easy to feel lost, awash in the head-spinning absurdity of modern politics. Fortunately for us all, Oliver is set to get back on the airwaves in mid-February for Last Week Tonight’s seventh season, a new trailer for which HBO debuted Wednesday. Considering we’re now in a presidential election year and things are showing no sign whatsoever of becoming any less batshit, Oliver’s return (after Season 6 wound down in November) could not come at a better time.

If you’re already watching Oliver—and you should be—then you don’t need us to tell you a thing about this trailer, or to even see it. But if you happen to be new to Last Week Tonight, the clip is a wonderfully comprehensive introduction to its weekly antics, from Oliver’s elaborate, HBO budget-draining prop gags and remote segments to his biting political commentary and brutally self-deprecating wisecracks. The deep-diving host climbs Everest, leads a musical number, lethally brains Jigglypuff with a Pokeball, levels Tucker Carlson and welcomes some special guests, including a globe-burning Bill Nye. In Oliver’s words, “Are you not entertained?!”

Last Week Tonight returns Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 p.m. on HBO. Watch the trailer below.
