Animal Runs Wild in First Trailer for Disney’s Muppets Mayhem

If there’s one type of Disney+ announcement we’re always happy to see, it’s a brand new special featuring The Muppets, and this morning’s new trailer represents a bonanza unlike anything we’ve seen in recent memory. The first footage of The Muppets Mayhem, which you can see below, gives us a look at not just a special but an entire musical comedy series featuring the iconic house band of the Muppet troupe, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Starring all the beloved regular members of the Muppet band, and flanked by the usual menagerie of impressive guest stars and musical cameos, The Muppets Mayhem looks like a deliriously hard-rocking good time. The entire series is set to be released on Disney+ on May 10, 2023.

At first glance, The Muppets Mayhem looks like more of a mockumentary, a VH1 Behind the Music-style tribute to the heyday and decline of the fictional band, replete with the usual style of talking head interviews–we’re immediately treated to Tommy Lee insisting that the Electric Mayhem “taught Mötley Crüe how to shred and party.” The rest of the series, however, seems to focus on the Mayhem as they undertake the recording of their first ever album, clashing against the sensibilities of the modern music industry and social media/pop culture landscape as a vintage band stuck in its ways from the 1970s and 1980s. Internet comedy star Lilly Singh stars as Nora, a junior record company exec tasked with bringing The Electric Mayhem and its members–Dr. Teeth, Lips, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot and of course Animal–into the 21st century. Other primary cast members include Tahj Mowry, Saara Chaudry and Anders Holm.

This being a Muppets production, though, it’s safe to say that rambunctious musical numbers will be a big selling point, and we’re certain to get plenty of new, original tunes from Dr. Teeth and company. There’s also the typical laundry list of celebrity cameos, especially from the world of music, as the trailer below reveals glimpses of the likes of Weird Al Yankovic, Lil Nas X, Chris Stapleton and many more Hollywood stars. One question not answered: Will the rest of the core Muppets cast stop by as well? We’ll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, check out The Muppets Mayhem full trailer below.
