Tommy Wiseau Has Resurfaced in a New Animated Sci-Fi Pilot, SpaceWorld

Drop what you’re doing, folks, we’ve got a new Tommy Wiseau project.

The creator of The Room, Best F®iends and a number of other mind-altering products has made the jump to animation, bringing friend Greg Sestero of The Room fame along with him. The press release for their new, animated sci-fi “pilot” (it’s 5 minutes long) calls the two “Earth’s most unpredictable cult filmmaking duo.” We’re not sure if that’s entirely accurate, unless you’re counting Wiseau’s unpredictability in front of a camera … which surprisingly, SpaceWorld seems to have harnessed for actual comedy. The results are considerably more polished than we would have expected. Here’s your synopsis:

Wiseau stars as the mysterious bounty hunter known as TX, a man in search of his home planet, which he knows absolutely nothing about. Sestero’s Drogol is TX’s lifelong nemesis and SpaceWorld’s most bloodthirsty killer. Together, they explore and explode SpaceWorld’s vast but dingy universe of limitless possibilities, technologies, and stupidities.

The temptation is to describe this series as The Room meets something like Starcrash or Firefly, but given the project’s actual name, a comparison to Spice World might actually be most accurate. After all, the series is basically Wiseau and his alien friends on the equivalent of an intergalactic tour bus, on a never-ending quest to find enlightenment. Sounds pretty Spice World to us.

SpaceWorld is hosted on the new-ish YouTube comedy animation channel Octopie, and comes from writer-director Brock LaBorde, who has worked with Wiseau in the past, directing the short The House That Drips Blood on Alex. He also wrote something called Air Sex: The Movie, so there you go.

It’s unclear if we’re going to be seeing more, regularly scheduled episodes of Space World, given that the production costs seem like they would actually be substantial. The voicework is competent and the animation is on par with most Adult Swim series these days. One can only imagine that a network such as Adult Swim might be the ultimate goal for a series such as this one, but it’s YouTube home only says “Like and subscribe to Octopie if you want to see more episodes!,” when it comes to promising any additional SpaceWorld content.

For now, you can check out the pilot episode below.
