Selma and 13th director Ava DuVernay revealed via Twitter Tuesday that she had successfully convinced Nigerian-British singer Sade to record new music. The legendary R&B artist who brought us “Smooth Operator” has returned from a seven-year hiatus to record original music for DuVernay’s forthcoming feature, A Wrinkle in Time, due out in theaters March 9.
This single, titled “Flower of the Universe,” marks Sade’s first recording since her 2010 album Soldier of Love. DuVernay talked about Sade’s musical contribution to the film on Twitter on Tuesday, saying that collaborating with the musician was “a dream come true.”
“I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway,” the director tweeted. “[Sade] was kind + giving. A goddess.”
I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled “Flower of the Universe.” And it’s a dream come true. pic.twitter.com/FdXrZ1MFMO
