With This One Tweet From Laurence Tribe, We Have Reached Peak Lunatic Russia Conspiracy Twitter

We have featured Harvard law professor and ridiculous crank Laurence Tribe on this website before, when he had some lies to spread about Bernie Sanders. At the time, Tribe was trying to pass himself off as a woke centrist while taking upwards of $435,000 from a coal company to challenge Obama’s environmental laws. (Amazingly, Tribe was one of Obama’s “mentors” at Harvard.)
We haven’t checked in with Tribe since then—we assumed he was tweeting about respecting women while advocating for drone strikes in Yemen, or something—but we managed to catch up with him today because of this absolute doozy of a tweet. I’m screenshotting it, because it’s only a matter of time before he deletes it…assuming he has any shame left. (Update: It’s deleted.)
Now, I don’t want to belittle Russian interference in our election, or Mueller’s investigation, or any tie between the Putin government and Trump. But Russian conspiracy Twitter, populated by the likes of Mensch, Garland, Taylor, et al, is outside the scope of respectable inquiry. It’s like comparing NASA to the flat-earth society.
And with this tweet, Tribe has solidified his place among the ranks of the true nutters. Let’s break down his claims:
1. There was a plane crash.
2. On board, there was a Russian.
