Watch the Action-Filled New Trailer for Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon

Whereas the first trailer for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon mostly hinted at the depths of violence visited upon the Osage Nation people at the turn of the 20th century, the newest trailer released today gets right to the point: Where oil comes, blood usually follows. This trailer feels like a purposeful decision from Apple Studios, highlighting more of the action of the film, perhaps in an effort to call to mind previous Scorsese crime epics such as Goodfellas or The Departed. Set to a rousing composition from The Halluci Nation, “Stadium Pow Wow (feat. Black Bear),” we imagine this trailer is going to generate some serious interest from more casual movie audiences who didn’t know much about Killers of the Flower Moon as the hardcore film geeks. If that’s you, here’s the official synopsis:

At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), “Killers of the Flower Moon” is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal. Also starring Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion.

Obviously, that’s an absolute all-star cast, which is hardly surprising given the status of Martin Scorsese adapting a best-selling book from author David Grann. The trailer above gives us glimpses of some of those names, such as an absolutely diabolical-looking Brendan Fraser, and Jesse Plemons as lawman Tom White, who arrives in Oklahoma to investigate the spate of murders. And of course, Academy voters are probably salivating at the idea of getting to nominate Dicaprio or De Niro–or both–once again, when all is said and done.

Killers of the Flower Moon already premiered at Cannes to strong reviews, but remains still a ways in the foreground, scheduled for an Oct. 6, 2023 release in the U.S. Check out the trailer below as we impatiently wait for Scorsese’s latest masterpiece to draw a bit closer.
